A few Historical Photos
( The Early Years)

Founded in Fremantle in 1960, the Black Octopus Skindiving Club — affectionately known as the Black Occies — is a club built on adventure, camaraderie, and a deep love for the Western Australian coast.

We started as a tight-knit group with Latvian roots and a shared passion for the sea. Over six decades, we've become a diverse community of freedivers, spearfishers, crabbers, and ocean lovers who believe the best stories happen underwater — or around the BBQ afterwards.

Based mainly at Fremantle, our members range from seasoned veterans to first-timers. All you need is a sense of adventure and a love of the ocean.
